Mediation
"Divorce mediation is when the parties set aside their anger, hurt, and pride, and agree to hire a neutral third party to find solutions. A good family law attorney acting as a mediator brings the parties to the table for meaningful and effective discussions that reach finality.”
For many couples, divorce mediation (a mutually agreed settlement) poses a positive alternative to divorce litigation (a divorce trial). In a mediated divorce, the couple will hire an unbiased, third-party mediator whose job is to facilitate a conversation and, ultimately, a compromise that works for both spouses.
With family law a core practice area for Hill Country Law, offering formal mediation is a natural extension of our services. Our lead mediator, Judge John Burns, serves as a Hays County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace, where for the past eight years he has dedicated his career to the fair application of the law. In private practice he is a highly sought after attorney and mediator who strictly follows the core principles of mediation under Texas law:
John’s an "impartial third party” (neutrality), he can’t impose his own judgment on the issues (non-binding process), almost everything said or produced during mediation generally cannot be used as evidence if the case eventually goes to trial (confidentiality), and the parties retain full control (self-determination).
